Anyone who plays 1 e4 as White must be prepared not only for Black’s main defences but also an assortment of less popular lines. These, when taken together, represent a significant percentage of the replies you can expect to meet when opening 1 e4. Dealing with these slightly offbeat variations is often a daunting task, especially since your opponents are likely to be specialists in these lines and therefore know them inside out.

This book provides the perfect solution. International Master Andrew Greet gets to grips with each of these tricky openings. He identifies how to exploit their weaknesses whilst avoiding their strengths, thus constructing a practical and dependable repertoire for White. This book covers everything a 1 e4 player needs to know about facing these defences.

* Written by a renowned opening expert
* Full of original ideas and analysis
* Ideal for improvers, club players and tournament players.

Beating Unusual Chess Defences 1 e4 Dealing with the Scandinavian Pirc Modern Alekhine and other tricky lines edition by Andrew Greet Humor Entertainment eBooks

The book has good suggestions on how to handle the White side of the "minor" openings against 1.e4 named Alekhine, Pirc,Modern , Scandinavian,Philidor, Nimzovich, English Defense and other unsound but dangerous sidelines like 1e4 NC6 2.Nf3 f5?!

The ideas are organized in a very efficient way. At the beginning of each chapter the reader will find an overview of the chapter in words and also as sequence of games. Greet introduce the reader to "his" repertoire by using complete, annotated model games from recent chess praxis. As usual in this type of repertoire book you can not expect to find everything and at some point some extra work may be required from the reader. For example, after 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 Black may transpose back into e4 e5 opening but White can not longer use his/her openings involving an early f4 push such as the Vienna or King gambit .

I recommend this book it is worth the hard earn money you pay for it. At my level of play Class A (1900 USCF) the suggested recommendations fill the bill ( I will add more comments as I play stronger opposition). I am not a professional reviewer and the publisher did not provided a sample copy.

Beating Unusual Chess Defences 1 e4 Dealing with the Scandinavian Pirc Modern Alekhine and other tricky lines edition by Andrew Greet Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

Recommended lines are solid, although may not be that up-to-date as the book was published quite some time ago. Some lines are tame, leading to a safe slight advantage or equality.
Would have bought it for the Philador/Czech Pirc chapter alone. If you are crazy enough to play e4 nowadays you can save yourself some money by buying this book instead of 7 separate monographs. I am glad I did....
